We Should Be Friends

Happy Sunday Ya’ll.

Hope you are enjoying what looks to be a Packer win (fingers crossed).

I’m gona be straight up with you all… I. Am. Spent. I am tired, hungover, and in a shitty, anxiety-ridden mood and the words just aren’t coming today. I also don’t have much to report on as mom is still between treatment phases and has mostly been trying to work and eat as much as possible. I know she had a relaxing weekend at home with dad and that they were able to hang out with long-time family friends Gary and Karen Hasseldeck last night, which I know they always enjoy.

I grew up with the Hasseldecks’ as they were our neighbors on ol’ Rogers street. It amazes me that that mom and dad have stayed in contact with them for so long. Which made me think about how many friends mom actually has. So many different social circles and groups of people who have all been so supportive.

But there's so many of you that I don’t even know. I see comments on these blogs, the names of everyone logging in to check up on mom to make sure she is still doing ok… and I realized the other day that ME! HER OWN DAUGHTER! FLESH AND BLOOD! AND (GASP! 😱 ) I hardly know any of you!

But you know what. We should be friends. We should all be friends. Because if you’re all important enough to be in mom’s life… if you care about her enough to spend 20 min. each week to read my pitiful attempts at capturing her awesomeness, well then gosh darn it, I want to know more about you. And you should want to know more about each other! So, with that said… I am giving each of YOU a writing assignment this week.

Pretty, pretty please, take 5 min. this week and comment on this blog. Tell me (and everyone else reading!!!) your name, how you know mom, and one or two of your favorite moments/memories with her.  I, for one, know I could use some smiles, and I am sure she could too. I SO look forward to hearing from everyone. 😍

I’ll go first to break the ice.

Hi! My name is Margaret Marion Holt, but most of you know me as Maggie. I’m 31, a twin, a dog lover, book nerd, coffee addict, loyal friend, and (attempted) blogger. I am also Dave and Terri’s favorite daughter. I live in Indiana with my amazingly cute dog Seger and I work for a super awesome company with the best coworkers who allow me to channel my creativity, my passion for writing, and my sarcastic, fun-loving spirit into a job… AND they pay me for it, so that’s cool. I’ve known Terri for a whopping 31 years, 6 months and 30 days. But that doesn’t count the weeks Charlie and I were wombmates in an incredibly snug living space.

I have a lot of great memories with mom which I have attempted to capture below in no particular order.

  1. Being born and blessing mom and dad with the greatest gift they have ever received 😀

  2. Spending an amazing week with her in Grand Cayman last April

  3. Wearing sweet matching outfits with her and lookin’ cute despite my horrific bowl cut (thanks a lot mom and dad)

  4. Our first trip to Nashville together, even though I was a snotty, rude, terrible human being and she still loves me despite it

  5. All the Halloweens spent trick-or-treating with her in fashionable, homemade (cough, hot glue gunned, cough) costumes. Insert eye roll here.

  6. Getting to experience her first Miranda Lambert and Eric Church concerts with her

  7. And last but not least, every pointless, no reason for calling but "just wanted to say hi" phone call I've had with her over the years. Whether it’s dumb stories, pointless life updates, or just needing a laugh, she’s always there to brighten my day. 😌

Can’t wait to hear from you all and make some new friends!! Don't be shy!

XOXO
