Short and Sweet

"Let me tell you a story. She makes it. The end."

Hi all-

Despite my passion for words and storytelling, I am going to keep this week's update short and sweet. ❤️

Mom arrived at the hospital Tuesday for her third round of high-dose chemo. As always, they checked her blood/platelet count before administering her treatment. Her blood tests came back extremely low, with her platelet count at 63,000. As a point of reference, a healthy adult usually as a count in the range of 150,000-400,000. In typical, stubborn Terri fashion, she insisted they hook her up anyway. 😒

Her doctor agreed with one caveat, the only way he would move forward with the treatment was if she came back multiple times over the next two weeks to have her platelet and white blood cells count rechecked to confirm she wouldn't need a transfusion.

She came home Tuesday night with her trusty chemo port sidekick. She felt ok Tuesday but not so hot Wednesday and Thursday. She then went back on Friday morning for her shot of Repatha and a blood test which came back ok. She will have more blood work done Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning next week and likely a new set of scans before her final round one treatment which is scheduled for September 4. These test will tell her if the chemo is working and her tumor is shrinking, or if we need to skip her fourth treatment and go straight to the chemo/radiation power pack.

She has had a little success with some "solids" and sent a victory text to Charlie, Hailee, Patty and myself on Saturday after successfully eating (and swallowing!!!) cream of potato soup, a pb&j sans crust, yogurt, and even a cookie. Whooohoo!

Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers and for rocking your #TerriTacklesCancer #Terriwinkleblue bracelets. I plan on mailing a few more packages out tomorrow, but so far I have sent out 100 bracelets and 30 rings. Just WOW. 🤗

Last but not least, I know many of you have asked what you can do to help. Aside from all the prayers and positive vibes, we have started a Google.doc signup form where you can volunteer to bring (or order for delivery) a meal to mom and dads house to help them out. Please understand, we are by no means asking you to volunteer to do this. Your prayers and love are more than enough. I am simply sharing the link to the document since so many of you continue to be so amazing and ask how you can help.

I know it gets old hearing this, but we cannot thank you all for everything during this shitty time. It continues to amaze me the support system mom has built over the years. She is one lucky lady.

Till next week,

Maggie
