Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month

three years ago i woke up in paradise with my mom by my side. i was gifted a week-long vacation to grand cayman from my employer, and she was the first person i wanted to call and ask to be my plus one.

in less than 24 hours, she packed her bags and was in her car on the way to indiana so we could hop aboard @beckshybrids private jet for a week of sun and sand and drinks.

little did i know then that the amazing week we spent on that beautiful island would be the last trip i would ever get to take with her.

her symptoms had already started showing - it was the first time i witnessed them - but i pushed it off as nothing. acid reflux or just some bad heartburn. but boy was i wrong. she was diagnosed with cancer just two short months later and my world, as i knew it, ended.

i share these memories from three years ago because they make me smile and cry all at the same time. but also because tomorrow is april 1 - and april just so happens to be esophageal cancer awareness month.

i just know that if mom would have addressed her symptoms earlier we would have had so much more time with her. don't ignore your gut, listen to what your body tells you, and if you think something is wrong - get it checked. give your loved ones the time with you they deserve. 🖤
